DutchTub

DutchTub, wood fired hot tub. Designed by Floris Schoonderbeek.
Who doesn’t dream of snow capped mountains, blue skies and a big orange bathtub right in the middle! Okay not one of the most conventional imageries out there but as someone said “normal is boring”.
Meet the DutchTub. The name may not conjure the most decadent images however it does claim to contribute to the “worldwide outdoor-bathing culture” which makes it worthwhile in our books. This novel tub has been constructed from natural wood, which along with the innovative construction ensures durability and comfort.
So how does the simply titled DutchTub work its magic? Well read on!
After filling the tub with water, a fire can be started in the attached basket to kick start the heating process. The hot water starts to rise in the spiral, which automatically starts pouring in through the spiral, and begins circulating from the bottom to the top. The temperature is adjustable and to warm 700 liters of cold water the tub takes around two and a half hours.

As explained by the creators, “Dutchtub is more than a product; it’s a way of engaging in your environment (where ever you are) and upgrading your possibilities within public or private space.”
The DutchTub may not be exactly a speed demon when it comes to matter of heating, however the whole point is the experience and not just the act!

What a great and fun design. But my only concern is about cleanliness. I know that hot tubs are great breeding grounds for bacteria and other dirty stuff but this just looks totally unclean! No filtering, no nothing! Bleh.
I guess we can redefine “going dutch” as being heated-up naturally. Should make those first dates even cheaper for us guys. Awesome flickr group, thanks for the tip.

good idea!
May I use the photo of the orange Dutch tub on my website Utahwater.net. I’d label it a Dutch tub.
Salt Lake City banned a hot tub in the ski resort of Alta for a cabin owner.
@ Evan, not sure if that question is directed towards a 3rings editor, but I am happy for you to use the image. It comes directly from the manufacturer’s website.

I love this idea.
Nice… but no match for the dutch oven. That heats up reeeeeal quick.
I love this, I will write about it on my blog:)
Neat idea, but I’m still confused as to what snow capped mountains have to do with Holland, as the last time I checked those snow capped mountains are generally in the France, Switzerland, Austria, Italy region?
No Time Tracker, since the global warming all mountains moved to Holland. France, Switzerland, Austria and Italy are flat now!
very cool thing :) thank for sharing
What a technology!! it must be really cozy in winters.
Nice idea but it would have been smarter to put the intake at the top of the tub and the output at the bottom to provide better convection heating.

Couches That Are No Slouches!
