At ICFF: Two Much

Woven Wall. Manufactured by 3-Form.

It’s just too soon to move on. I am still reeling from the fact that my I Beam table will be remaining in New York for the summer - without me! At this point I can’t even bring myself to have a rebound relationship with another coffee table.

So while I find myself wallowing in self pity, it seems as though the rest of the world has moved on… evidently in twos. Everywhere I look, everyone and everything is totally hooking up. Just the other day I found myself in the grocery store staring down at a baby Grāpple (it was really sweet). Apparently the grapes and apples have been “getting it on” for quite some time now. Who knew? And then I discovered that Porsche (as in 911) has been having an under-the-radar rendezvous with champagne producer Veuve Clicquot that recently culminated in the “Vertical Limit” champagne refrigerator. It may not be nearly as fast as the cabriolet - but it is definitely much cooler.

Vertical Limit, champagne refrigerator. Designed by Porsche in collaboration with Veuve Clicquot.

So after observing some of these recent yet bizarre trysts, it was rather refreshing to stumble upon the latest twosome of 3-Form and Wovin Wall. I am quite sure they will prove to be this year’s design scene darlings - especially after having made their relationship public this past week at ICFF. This hookup has all the makings of one really hot product; a stunning 3-dimensional system engineered in Australia by Wovin Wall, mixed with the oh-so-sexy eco-resin encapsulated materials of 3-Form.

By itself, Wovin Wall really is quite stunning. This system is comprised of a lightweight mounting grid that can be applied to any wall or ceiling surface. Its fabulous texture and curves are achieved by sliding tiles into the grid in an alternating fashion. But you know the old adage: “two is better than one.” And 3-Form definitely proves itself couple-worthy by offering up materials and finishes that are everything but ordinary: ecoresins, wood veneers, polyresins, laminates and anodized aluminums. For those in search of a little je ne sais quoi, 3-Form’s translucent resin tiles can be back-lit in a myriad of custom color and graphic options.

So it seems, spring has sprung and apparently more than May flowers are in bloom this season. As for my table … some things are just late bloomers but well worth the wait.

After having practiced interior architecture in the United States, the UK and Australia, it is fair to say her highly refined tastes are in part a reflection of her unique cultural experiences. When she’s not traveling the globe, you can probably find her hanging out at the nearest Modern Art museum bookstore.
