Live at NeoCon: Brit Bench Metallic
By Jacob Slevin on Wednesday, June 11th, 2008
Our last (but certainly not least) live post from NeoCon Day 2 is the Brit Bench Metallic, designed by Simon Pengelly, and manufactured by Leland International. This might sound a bit crude, but I have to say it: this bench is super sexy!
An exciting new concept for public seating, the Brit Bench can be used as a stellar stand alone feature or linked together to form molecular like arrangements. Brit bench is a sculptural answer to seating in fast paced environments such as airports and large open lobbies. The seat proportions offers visitors the opportunity to sit or straddle the bench and the harmonic form encourages human interaction. The securely mounted table appears to float over the bench and provides additional functionality for a laptop or as a surface for a drink or small meal.

I additionally see these seating artifacts appealing to hospitality designers. I suspect we’ll the see the Brit Bench Metallic appearing in hotel lobbies (perhaps minimalist and modern boutique properties) as a floating centerpiece. Without doubt, it’s a very progressive furniture piece, and when two or more benches are positioned together, it becomes more and more powerful.
Be sure to visit Leland furniture before this show ends. You’ll want to straddle this bench yourself… I promise.
