Barbicù. Designed by Piero Lissoni for Alessi.

The 4th of July consists of red, white and blue… and all-American barbeque. Whether you’re heading to the park or the beach, setting up in the backyard or making use of a rooftop- the holiday demands a spread of grilled food (and the aroma that coincides). Alessi, the Italian design factory responsible for transforming our world of objects and gadgets since the early 1930s, has come out with their first ever barbeque, aptly named Barbicù.

“An object dedicated to rustic cooks, explorers of taste, world-travelling gourmets, bucolic sophisticates and lovers of life in the open air. More of a travelling-case than a domestic utensil. An essential, multi-form structure, ideal for cooking on deserted islands, exotic boats, garden terraces, and even in old courtyards, age-old parks, roof top terraces, canal banks. Its presence is never mundane, never common; simple, upbeat shapes evoking a domestic life in which no detail is overlooked.” Explains its designer Piero Lissoni. Better yet, Barbicù is a product of A di ALESSI, the least expensive of the Alessi brands.

Gas or coal, small or large, portable or for the garden: the modular system can be configured however you choose. It comes pre-assembled and ready to use, and can be enlarged at will to fulfill future barbecuing desires.  Accessorize it with the optional trolley and cutting board, or a windshield, griddle, and carry case. Whether you’re preparing a gourmet feast for the 4th or a basic meal of hot dogs and burgers, Alessi’s Barbicù can be set up to do the cooking in whatever location you’re at for the holiday.  As you anxiously await the long weekend, check out your barbecuing options and prepare for the summer season.  Also check out the Cementum Fireplate, produced by between VITEO in collaboration with Concreto, which also serves as a simple bonfire.
