Material experimentation at #IIDEX 09… the Brothers Dressler onedge series explores using plywood “on its edge” for form, structure and comfort. Designers have achieved incredible things with laminated plywood furniture (think Alvar Aalto), but we’ve seen this again and again.
The onedge rocker, with its sinuous form, consists of a series of narrow birch plywood strips connected to one another via stainless steel hardware and situated parallel to one another. Hand stamped and numbered, each piece is cut on a CNC machine and hand-finished with a water-based lacquer in their workshop. Brothers Dressler takes a fresh look at the material and uses in a new way . Its thin profile and minimal form give the piece a weightless aesthetic. Slight flex and movement are provided by its cantilevered base, ideal for “relaxing with a book or rocking a baby to sleep.” Available with or without arms in the following stains and colors: dark (shown), brown, natural, red, charcoal.
