A favorite designer of mine - who ranks right up there with Patricia Urquiola - is the French designer we know and adore, Inga Sempé. Always so put together with no unnecessary frills, a natural beauty comes through in each piece she creates. This, and the fact that she had done the W103 lamp for them before, was likely the selling point that appealed to the Swedish lighting manufacturer, Wästberg when her W103s suspension lights came to fruition.

Now with the Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair 2012 coming to a close this week, Sempé and Wästberg are embarking on yet another year of working closely with one another on Sempé’s LED lamps. The only difference this time around is that instead of a W103 resting on your table in a task-filled singular form, it is one of multiple poised as a unit of little pendant in a colorful (or not so colorful) assortment.

Featuring a hand-spun aluminum shade similar to those of the table or task light, Sempé and Wästberg infuse color and optional multiplicity into the 2012 W103s suspension lamp design to bring in a new, room-lit feel hanging from the ceiling. “Different combinations of colors and tones can be combined as separate pendants, arranged along a bar or coupled together on a hexagonal frame,” says Wästberg. “These exist in 7 very different tones – bright, soft, clear, dark – and can be arranged in any color combination.” Wästberg is a Swedish manufacturer of lighting that was founded in 2008 and has worked with other famous designers including Claesson Koivisto Rune, Ilse Crawford and David Chipperfield.
