London-based Norwegian-born designer Magnus Pettersen has worked with Finnish glass company Iittala to produce Leimu; a table lamp that combines a warm copper-tinted glass diffuser with a cold concrete base.

The copper-tinted glass diffuser and dark concretebase of Magnus Pettersen’s Leimu lamp for Iittala create a pleasing contrast.

Leimu, meaning flame in Finnish, is inspired by the form of traditional lampshades and is designed to create a warm and relaxed atmosphere. The copper-tinted glass diffuser is contrasted with a concrete base that has been made slightly darker to make it seem softer.

Pettersen explains the reasoning behind his decision to use concrete: "It has a raw and cold feel to it. The union of glass and concrete is well known in architecture, but it isn't necessarily always beautiful. I wanted to smoothly combine opposites in a lamp and show that fierce and sensitive, cold and warm can work well together."

The lamp is available in two sizes: small (D) 200 x 300 mm and large (D) 250 x 380 mm.
