Kaushik Krishna’s Wudu table is constructed of no less than eight species of distinct woods.

Wudu—which translates as “ablution” or “ritual washing”—eschews uniformity in favor of a bold synchrony between and among Rose Wood, Neem, Eucalyptus, Red Sandalwood, Mahogany, Blackwood, Sal, and Pine.

The result is a gorgeous kind of illusion that reminds me of Cubist art: Krishna’s expert hand seamlessly fuses these disparate woods into a unified whole that gives us a simultaneous glimpse of many places, many forests.
