Lovely Lanterns by Lladró x Lee Broom
Let’s set the scene with a luminous lantern, brightening the eve like a firefly’s tail, multiplied in its enchantment by the ease with which it’s made and set to light.

Designer Lee Broom captures this minimalist magnificence with Cascade, a collection of porcelain pendants for Lladró that’s inspired by the elegant simplicity of paper lanterns.

As seen below, Broom’s take on the tradition has a celebratory vibe. Playing on the practice of stringing lanterns together to light outdoor weddings and birthdays, the designer gave Cascade a modular aspect: they may be connected vertically for a vivid display. The configuration below reminds me of “The Crystal Palace,” a birthday/pizza joint from my youth that was bedecked with dazzling illuminated mirrors.

With three profiles in porcelain (cylinders, small circles, and large circles), users may create any mood—from a dizzying fun-house effect to a serene-yet-welcoming glow, very like a lone lighthouse lamp beckoning the tempest-tossed home.

Broom’s Cascade pendants are handcrafted at the Lladró plant in Valencia, Spain. Here’s an image of the process: from pale as alabaster to burning amber bright.
