Live at NeoCon: Fractals!

Live at NeoCon: Fractals!

The verdant green growth spiraling across the walls of the Momentum showroom isn’t evidence of an HVAC malfunction but rather proof positive of the textile manufacturer’s evolution toward and with nature.

Debuting today, Renaturation (Best of NeoCon Innovation Award winner) is the next step in the move toward biophilia in design. Based on the concept of fractals—primordial, intricate, self-repeating organic forms—Renaturation is a clarion call for a new kind of immersion in nature. In fact, the term itself implies the very reclamation of man-made phenomena.

Momentum’s space at theMART is replete with examples. Fractal Bark (above and below) uses a vertical composition for a repeating pattern that evokes the stillness of a deep, dark forest.

Inspired by the renaturation of the River Aire in Geneva (which had been manipulated into a straight canal for over a century), Fractal River portrays the mesmerizing meandering of water over the earth’s contours.

Lastly, Fractal Moss is a map of the accreting movement of this most tenacious of organisms. The pattern is modeled on the process of lichen overtaking the surface of an ancient stone wall in Graz, Austria.

Created in collaboration with 13&9 Design (firm principals Martin and Anastasija Lesjak collaborated with fractals researcher Dr. Richard Taylor), Renaturation calls on our intrinsic hard-wired affinity for the visual complexity found in nature: “even brief exposure to fractal patterns can trigger measurable, healing responses… biophilic inspired/fractal-based patterns can reduce physiological stress levels by up to 60% within 10 seconds of exposure.”

That’s quite an attitude adjustment.

True to the infinitely varying shades of a crashing coastline or moss-heavy tree, these patterns are available in multiple colorways.

Experience Renaturation for yourself at NeoCon 2025, Suite 323.
