Straw, Stitch, and Sunlight
At a glance, they read as simple mats—sun-washed, quietly woven, cheerfully trimmed. But look again. These are High Tech Rugs by Paola Lenti, launched at Milan Design Week 2025, and they mark a new chapter in the design of commercial outdoor rugs.
With their tactile weave and irregular edges, the new designs—Ayla, Asira, Kilis, and Wadi—reinterpret the outdoor rug as a site for experimentation. Fringed borders, embroidered lozenges, and braided lines appear like found gestures, balancing Mediterranean symbolism with subtle joy. Texture does the talking here: dense and breathable, soft yet structured, natural in tone but with pops of citrus and plum.
These rugs may look handmade (and they are), but they’re also high performance. Crafted from Paola Lenti’s proprietary yarns—engineered for outdoor use and free of harmful treatments—they marry comfort with durability. Whether placed on a shaded courtyard, a wellness retreat patio, or a multifamily amenity deck, they offer designers a relaxed and flexible approach to defining space—without hard boundaries or visual noise.
They echo the quiet innovation seen in The Good Plastic Company’s recycled surfaces: material as message, executed with restraint. Lenti’s take is subtler—but no less intentional. These commercial outdoor rugs don’t shout for attention. They shift with the light, inviting closer inspection.
What distinguishes them isn’t just how they wear—it’s how they feel. Comfort, sustainability, and softness, all underfoot.
