Curtain Couture with a Sense of Humor

Curtain Couture with a Sense of Humor

The new Clothing Curtains collection from Œuvres Sensibles, designed by Sarah Espeute, turns window coverings into playful rituals. These pieces don’t just filter light. They hang like oversized garments and transform interiors into wardrobes scaled for architecture.

Espeute blurs the line between art and utility. Her past embroidered trompe-l’oeil tablecloths did the same. With Clothing Curtains, she continues this work in textiles that double as illusions. Each curtain resembles a shirt or pair of trousers. Pockets, cuffs, and collars appear in French linens and vintage textiles, giving drapery a tailored, witty edge.

The collection offers more than visual jokes. It redefines window coverings as objects of narrative and craft. Made by hand in her Marseille atelier, each piece relies on sustainable fabrics and aims for longevity. The designs resist disposable trends and encourage slower, more intentional interiors.

These curtains belong in boutique hotels and creative offices. They deliver humor without sacrificing precision. They also reflect a broader movement toward textile-driven interiors, similar to the inventive fabric work in NYCxDesign’s “Many Tails to Choose From”.

Espeute’s goal is clear. She wants to dress spaces as we dress the body. The results carry meaning as well as function, giving designers a tool that feels witty, tactile, and memorable.
