Lefty, Done Right

Lefty, Done Right

Coffee is daily. This makes it deliberate. Chuck Mack’s Lefty, available soon, rethinks coffee drippers with a counterclockwise stainless steel coil that feels equal parts lab tool and tabletop sculpture.

The form is deceptively simple. A heat-treated, electropolished wire spring cradles a standard #2 V60 filter, but the open structure allows partial immersion before the drip-through begins. It borrows from the French press and the classic pour-over, then reduces both to a single, nearly unbreakable gesture.

Brewing with it is tactile. You immerse the coil, let the grounds bloom, then lift and hold as the coffee drains cleanly toward the narrow end. A coarse grind keeps the pace right. Two minutes of attention delivers a cup that’s hot, balanced, and quietly satisfying.

Everyone loves a good cup of coffee. Few coffee drippers make the ritual feel this intentional. Lefty earns its place on the counter not just because it looks cool, but because it performs. It’s a small object with a clear point of view, and a reminder that good industrial design can still improve the everyday.
