We love it when design brands go immersive—and this year, Baccarat returns to Milan Design Week with a sci-fi-inspired event that combines lighting, sound, choreography, and film. To experience the Crystal Crypt, visit Fondation Mondadori at Via Marco Formentini 10 in the Brera district from April 21 – 25 (or watch the short film if you can’t make it).

Created by installation artist Emmanuelle Luciani, the futuristic space is inspired by Philip K. Dick’s galactic cathedral and features new Baccarat creations, including candleholders and lighting by British designer Bethan Laura Wood. Should you enter this “spatial opera,” you will witness “260 years of savoir-faire with futuristic, neo-gothic aesthetics,” as Baccarat states.

Luciani’s concept for Crystal Crypt revolves around an imagined future (circa the year 5300) in which crystal is a precious resource protected by artisans. Throughout the space, Baccarat displays classic objects and unveils introductions by Bethan Laura Wood, a designer known for her riveting use of color.

Look for Wood’s Mille Fleurs candleholders, which infuse classic Baccarat shapes with bursts of turquoise, gold, green, purple, and pink. This same palette extends to a chandelier by the renowned Brit that looks like something unearthed from the set of Blade Runner.

Baccarat took a few years off before reentering Milan Design Week this year with a futuristic bang. Crystal Crypt, plus the collaborations with a daring multimedia artist and a bold product designer, signals a shift in the brand’s ethos—a willingness to merge material know-how with avant-garde forces to spawn a new era in crystal design.
