Salone Preview: Walk Like an Egyptian with Arte Wallcoverings
For the first time in the company’s forty-year history, Arte will open a pop-up shop during Milan Design Week.

The Belgian wallcoverings brand is teaming up with Spanish textile artist Gabriela de Sagarminaga of Bilbao-based Atelier Sagarminaga to present Echoes of Memphis, an installation inspired by Ancient Egypt.

Arte Pop-Up in Brera District
Arte’s installation is inspired by Memphis, the first Egyptian capital, which was home to the kingdom’s temple and royal palaces. The immersive experience is a textural wonderland, combining Sagarminaga’s braided and crocheted sculptures with a display of the Memphis Collection, five new wallcoverings with bas-relief motifs. “During Milan Design Week, Arte elevates walls to a new dimension, not as a backdrop, but as a statement,” the company notes.

Displayed in the heart of the Brera District, an artsy neighborhood known for its design showrooms and art galleries, Echoes of Memphis presents an atmospheric tableau in which a goddess invites visitors to wander among raffia creatures, scattered vessels, and woven landscapes—all in the foreground of rich wallcoverings.

Abydos displays lines and triangles in a soft 3D textile with geometric designs that protrude and recede at different levels, creating an interplay of shadows.

Inspired by its namesake city, an ancient metropolis surrounded by fertile valleys, Amarna features an artistic interpretation of a city blueprint. Waves indicate fields and grids symbolize neighborhoods.

Ibis is a more literal depiction of ancient Egypt, with the regal Ibis bird hidden amidst lush foliage—a perfect backdrop for tropical spa-hotels and Palm Beach mansions.
Soft and velvety, Sakkara is virtually impossible to resist. Everyone will want to run their fingers along the square shapes representing a step pyramid.

Siwa blends zig-zagging and straight lines in a dynamic pattern reminiscent of palm trunks.
The five Arte wallcoverings unveiled at Milan Design Week come in evocative colors enhanced by the light as it hits the rise and fall of the 3D texture. Chestnut and Elephant make the designs splendorously moody, while Off-White and Antique Gold feel luminously vibrant.

All wallcoverings in the Memphis Collection have an added benefit: They absorb and dampen sound. For more acoustical wallpapers, explore our wallcoverings.
