A glass surfer rides a frozen wave inside a tube of linear pendant lighting. NALUM, the newest linear pendant from Munich’s Ingo Maurer, turns an ocean swell into handmade glass and sets a tiny figure loose on its crest. It lands in July, right on cue for summer.

The trick is two tubes. A handcrafted inner one ripples like water caught mid-break. A calm outer cylinder frames it and hides the hardware. A linear source rakes light across the ripples, throwing reflections that shift every time the glass is turned. Summer, held still.

Designer Sebastian Hepting built the whole thing on a pun. NALUM joins “nalu,” Hawaiian for wave, with a nod to light. The included surfer figurines make the joke literal without tipping into kitsch. Set one on the crest and the swell never closes out.

It earns its keep where a long table wants presence and restraint at once. Both uplight and downlight, each dimmable, at a warm 2700K. Over a conference table or a rooftop bar, the wave does the talking.
