Tai Ping Brings the Range Indoors

Tai Ping Brings the Range Indoors

Sierra is Tai Ping‘s newest collection of handcrafted wool and silk rugs, five designs pulled from the granite spine and alpine meadows of the Sierra Nevada.

The set works between two poles. Tundra and Conifer hold the rugged end, all weathered grain and windswept field. Serene and Santal lean the other way, toward polished stone, their pile worked into quiet contour lines and ribbed relief. Juniper sits in the middle.

Color does the rest. Abrash dyeing, borrowed from nomadic practice, lets each field drift through mineral tones. Bone, sepia, madder, slate, umber. No two inches read quite alike.

Every design comes in two colorways, so one pattern can run warm or cool depending on the room.

Tundra in clay is the one to watch. It bridges interior and exterior, a floor as at home with the desert outside as the plaster wall behind it.

Specify Sierra where texture should register underfoot without raising its voice. A boutique hotel lobby. A members’ lounge. A quiet executive floor.

For another collection where color carries the floor, see Radici’s painterly take on commercial carpet.
