Hanabira Stands on Four Black Petals
Hanabira is a marble dining table made entirely of Nero Marquina, from tabletop to floor. Raffaello Galiotto designed it for Lithos Design, the marble specialist based in Chiampo, Italy.
The name is Japanese for “petal.” It points to the four legs, which taper as they drop and read, abstractly, as petals. Each one is pure stone. Each one still looks light on its feet.
The rectangular top runs nearly eight feet, with rounded corners and a minimal edge. White veins cross the black ground in quick, nervous strokes. Galiotto keeps the geometry quiet on purpose. Nothing competes with the stone.
That restraint gives a black marble table real staying power in shared spaces. It belongs where a table sets the tone before anyone sits down: a private dining room, a members’ club, a boardroom with something to prove.
For the opposite idea, Emmanuelle Simon’s Orma modular dining table breaks dining into movable parts. Hanabira prefers to stay whole.
