BDNY 2026: Beats of the Bronx
For a collection built on a metaphor of music, it’s fitting to offer a reprise for BDNY.

First covered last summer during NeoCon, Michael Ford x Momentum is a melody of tactile textiles, each evoking the rhythmic riffs of the collaborative art form called hip-hop.

The names of the patterns tell a tale, a narrative arc that takes us back to the Bronx with “Dance Off,” “Flow Chart,” “Cypher,” and “BREAKIN’.” “Headspin”—the most audacious of the colorways in the BREAKIN’ family—captures the dizzying geometries of Hip-Hop from all angles: the music, the moves, and the moment.

At BDNY, Momentum will transform their booth at 719 into an “immersive 70s hi-fi lounge.” Teaser pics show that the space will be of a flavor to savor, as it features not only the colors and textures of the very species of recording studio that birthed hip-hop, but also new products from Autex Acoustics, including a sounding board of low-carbon solutions.

Michael Ford will be on hand at BDNY from 2-3 on Sunday and 10-2 on Monday, discussing his ideas surrounding “liquid architecture,” as well as the Hip Hop by Design scholarship programs. A percentage of all sales from the Momentum collection goes toward funding. The connection here is the origin story behind the Bronx Composition pattern—which began as a photograph taken in 2016 from the first hip-hop architecture camp and morphed into this artful interpretation of the dynamic interplay between people and music—an apt example of the endlessly creative potential of design.
