Cozy Up In The Sofa Coussin
Staying home has never sounded so good, thanks to French Designer Inga Sempé. Sofa Coussin (translation: cushions), unveiled at the Stockholm Furniture Fair this month, is a sofa you can literally wrap yourself into. A throwback to the pillow forts of our youth? Lucky for us, this design piece is not just for kids. While we all need a sofa, it’s that extra cozy nest that takes the “oh-so-good” factor up a notch.
Perhaps little for you has changed between childhood and adulthood besides the fact that your clothes no longer fit and that box of grape juice has since fermented into wine. If you find yourself yearning for a little child’s play and extra comfort, check out Inga Sempé’s latest sofa, designed for Norwegian company LK Hjelle. The best of both worlds: Sofa Coussin is a refined modern sofa and cozy nest combined into one appealing place to lounge, minus the mess. Says the designer, this is a place to feel good, for both adults and children.

Sofa Coussin is a simple design: a bed base with a mattress and a long cushion with loose ends. Just like your old pillow fort, plush materiality reigns here: cushions, cushions and more cushions. The sofa was engineered so you the sitter can do with the loose ends as you wish. Bend them under your head or feet, wrap the arms around you, or sit upright comfortably. Inga Sempé proves that good design can be fantastically comfortable, aesthetically pleasing and (dare I say) fun. So with that said, there is a place for Inga Sempé’s Sofa Coussin in every home. My recommendation? Curl up with a glass of wine and a romance novel, lean back for a repeat viewing of When Harry Met Sally, or take a well-deserved nap. Skip the dinner out in favor of an evening at home. Whether relaxing by yourself or sharing the coveted recesses of this sofa with someone special, Sempés sofa guarantees that this Valentine’s Day won’t be an empty one.
