NYCxDESIGN 2025: THIS IS NOT A STRUT
Our week of products celebrating collaboration kicks off with the Blu Dot x DUDD HAUS joint exhibit THIS IS NOT A STRUT at Blu Dot’s NoMad location as part of NYCxDESIGN 2025.

Blu Dot’s Strut Table, “rad as hell” and notorious for “working its architectural angles to the max,” turns 20 this year.

To celebrate, Blu Dot asked 21 emerging designers from the DUDD HAUS design collective in Philadelphia to respond to the perception of “strut.” What does it mean as a noun? How about as a verb? A reinterpretation of interpretation.

The 21 pieces are imaginative, inventive, and especially funky.

I especially love “Strutting Eclipse” by Donut. Its confident step forward reminds me of Mickey’s corps of magic brooms in The Sorcerer’s Apprentice from Disney’s original Fantasia film released in 1940.

“Little Table. Big Attitude. Strut Your Stuff.”

Trust Stool by James Burial “challenges the notion of safety which a strut usually provides. To sit, the user must take an intentional leap of faith.” Wibble, wobble, “the sitter must make a deliberate act of choice and trust.”

Blu Dot’s NoMad Showroom is located at 79 Madison Avenue. They are open today from 10 AM to 6 PM.
