Sustainable Resin Furniture Design, with a Twist of Pepper

Sustainable Resin Furniture Design, with a Twist of Pepper

Laurent Peacock’s Piper Collection turns an everyday kitchen encounter into a study in sustainable resin furniture design. What began as a request from his wife for a spice rack led to a playful experiment: embedding peppercorns in resin. The result was unexpectedly beautiful, an intricate, organic surface that now defines his furniture line.

Each piece in the collection, from the sculptural Spool Tables to the sleek Piper X Cabinet, celebrates pattern born from chance. Whole peppercorns are layered with tinted bio-resins, producing rich surfaces that shimmer between order and chaos. The process is slow and the scale limited, but the result is singular: furniture that feels both modern and handmade.

Peacock’s approach to sustainable furniture design resists mass production. Every panel is made to size, never cut from sheets, ensuring minimal waste and material integrity. It is a meticulous balance of craft and chemistry, proof that sustainability does not mean compromise.

For designers seeking warmth and tactility within a high-performance finish, the Piper Collection offers a subtle surprise. At first glance, the surfaces resemble terrazzo or inlay. Only on closer inspection do they reveal their secret ingredient. Much like The Still Life of Resin, Peacock’s work reminds us how design can reimagine the overlooked, transforming humble materials into enduring art.
