Structure First: The Rialto Collection
Structure is usually the quiet part of furniture design. In the Rialto Collection by Rimadesio, it becomes the defining gesture.
Designed by Giuseppe Bavuso, the series centers on a welded aluminum frame that wraps each piece like a bridge. The construction lifts the internal volumes slightly off the ground, creating a sense of lightness that runs across the entire collection.
From cabinets and desks to bedside tables and coffee tables, the aluminum perimeter remains constant. It holds drawers, shelving, and surfaces within a skeletal structure that feels both precise and architectural.
The effect is subtle but powerful. Storage appears suspended rather than anchored, giving the furniture a quiet visual lift.
The collection spans seven pieces, including a bar cabinet, bedside tables, coffee tables, mirror, six-drawer cabinet, TV unit, and writing desk. Each object follows the same structural logic, allowing the series to move easily between living, working, and hospitality environments.
Material exploration sits at the core of the system. Surfaces range from Calacatta marble to walnut wood, alongside Rimadesio’s Ecolorsystem lacquers, a palette of 46 water-based colors formulated without environmentally harmful substances. The finishes shift the character of the pieces, from warm and tactile to sleek and architectural.
Interior detailing is equally considered. Drawer interiors are lined with synthetic leather. Shelving integrates discreet lighting and power solutions. The bar cabinet includes a directional spotlight triggered by a presence sensor, along with integrated outlets for small appliances.
Within this framework, luxury storage furniture becomes less about concealment and more about composition. Materials, finishes, and structure work together to shape the visual rhythm of a space.
Rialto succeeds by revealing its structure rather than hiding it. The aluminum frame does more than support the furniture. It defines the design.
Rimadesio has long explored this balance between precision engineering and quiet material richness. We recently looked at another example of the brand’s thinking in a Salone highlight that similarly treats structure as the starting point for design.
