Colorful Lighting, No Pastels Allowed
Blue, yellow, and red coat the domes, rods, and bases of two lamp families from Catellani & Smith. Ettorino and Ale take their primary colors straight.
Ettorino is the reacher. The BIG floor lamp swings a long arm over a long table and spreads even light across it. A second source aims up, leaving a magenta halo on the ceiling. Three primaries on the lamp, a secondary color overhead.
A little red dancing figure rides the arm near the pivot. It reads as a joke. It is also the family’s signature feature.
Ale is built around the hemisphere. A blue dome floats on two yellow rods above a red base, in table, battery, wall, and ceiling versions. Look closer and a fly has landed on top. The ceiling model hangs dome-down, and its lens throws a crisp circle of light back overhead.
Gupica’s bamboo lighting let the material speak. Here, colorful lighting lets the paint talk. Picture it in a hotel lounge, over a communal restaurant table, or in any reception area that could use a wink.
