Taj Mahal, Giava and Darwin Join the Keramik Range
Cattelan Italia has added three stone-look ceramic finishes to its Keramik collection: Taj Mahal, Giava and Darwin. Each starts with a natural stone and translates it into ceramic. The range now runs to more than 15 ceramic options.
Taj Mahal is named for a Brazilian quartzite, not the monument. Think champagne ground, amber veining and a finer web of lighter lines that gives the surface a faceted, crystalline depth. It can also be molded into curved ceramic bases. That lets a table or console carry one material from top to floor.
Giava is the graphic one. From across a room it reads bright and even. Up close, beige and warm brown fragments break along diagonal lines, closer to cut crystal than a marble slab.
Darwin draws on Ebano quartzite. Long parallel veins move from café au lait to deep brown, with ochre and burnt sienna along the way. Depending on where you stand, it suggests tree rings or a canyon seen from above. Like Giava, it has a matte, soft-touch finish.
The appeal is familiar forms in a new skin. A ceramic surface brings the character of quarried stone to pieces built for daily use. It is the same material instinct behind the brand’s recent Matera modular coffee tables, which take their shapes from river stones.
For commercial work, the three stone-look ceramic finishes split the job. Taj Mahal warms an executive office or boardroom. Darwin gives a long restaurant table a sense of direction. Giava suits the hotel lounge where pattern should reward a closer look.
