Cattelan Italia Puts Pebbles in Play
Matera is a modular coffee table system from Cattelan Italia, designed by Studio 28. These modular coffee tables come in three shapes, three sizes, and one polished beige lacquer, glossy enough to read almost liquid.
The tables take their cues from river pebbles: thick tops, softly curved edges, low profiles that sit easy in a room. Push them together and the curves align into one continuous surface. Pull them apart and each holds its own beside a sofa or reading chair. That flexibility is the point. In a hotel lobby or workplace lounge, seating plans shift by the hour. Modular coffee tables that regroup without complaint earn their keep.
The name honors Matera, the Italian city carved from stone, and the tables carry that same weathered calm. Pair one with an upholstered pouf and the contrast does the work: hard gloss against soft fabric.
They would sit naturally alongside Baldwin and Murphy, the brand’s recent curved sofas, which share the same allergy to straight lines.
