Travertine, Timber, and the Glow Between

Travertine, Timber, and the Glow Between

At Living in Style Gallery, founder Beata Szabo curates mid-century furniture with a sharp eye for balance and materiality. This September, her London team brings a standout edit to the Autumn Battersea Decorative Fair, running September 30 through October 5, 2025, where organic stone, polished metal, and warm timber take center stage.

The mix is deliberate: a ribbed travertine console, slender chrome sconces with opaline light, and a crisp shelving unit grounded in wood and canvas. Each piece reflects Szabo’s ethos of timelessness, designs that carry the joy and optimism of postwar Italy while sitting comfortably in today’s interiors.

It is a study in proportion and honesty. The console recalls classical columns yet feels light. The sconces sharpen the composition, mirrored edges framing soft illumination. The shelving provides rhythm and practicality, its tiers supported by a quiet textile sling.

Together, these selections show why mid-century furniture continues to anchor contemporary spaces. They add gravity where rooms risk feeling fleeting, and they encourage eclectic layering. For another take on how mid-century design adapts across settings, see NYCxDesign: Mid-Century Desert.
