Workplace Tables with a Softer Core
Designers spend years softening the workplace. Rugs. Panels. Drapery.
Hum builds the softness directly into the table.
The fully upholstered pedestal base turns a functional surface into something more residential in tone, without sacrificing commercial performance. It’s the defining move of the new Hum collection from KFI Studios, designed by Union Design, and it reshapes how we think about workplace tables.
This is not just a conference table play. Hum spans occasional tables at 16 and 20 inches, standard-height meeting and conference tables, and a range of softly shaped tops, round, soft square, triangle, rectangle, and line-of-sight. Across every scale, the upholstered cylinder remains the constant. It grounds the piece visually and subtly absorbs sound, adding texture to open offices and shared environments that can otherwise feel hard-edged.
Material flexibility makes the collection specification-ready. Wood tops in seven stains bring warmth; laminate and solid surface options expand durability and price-point control. Integrated power and cable management are handled discreetly, with magnetic access panels in select bases for clean A/V integration. Adjustable glides keep installation straightforward.
What resonates most is the balance. Hum feels inviting, but not casual. Tailored, but not precious. In shared work environments, where collaboration and focus coexist, these workplace tables create a softer center of gravity. As explored in Canopy and the Architecture of Focus, today’s office is evolving toward spaces that support both energy and quiet. Hum meets that shift head-on, building comfort directly into the architecture of the table.
