Momentum has always known that a surface can carry a story. Their new collaboration with architect, educator, and Hip Hop By Design founder Michael Ford, FAIA, argues that it can carry a whole culture. Debuting at NeoCon 2026, these cultural contract textiles translate the language of hip hop into performance-driven surfaces for commercial interiors.

The Michael Ford x Momentum Collection arrives at NeoCon 2026 as five patterns spanning bio-sourced Circon Type II vinyl wallcoverings and jacquard upholstery fabrics. Ford’s framework is what he calls “liquid architecture,” the idea that hip hop, like the built environment, shapes how people move through space and find one another in it.

The wallcovering Breakin’ started as a sketch by Ford’s six-year-old son Mason: figures, loops, wiring diagrams, lines colliding with the energy of bodies mid-freestyle. It’s the collection’s most immediate pattern, and also its most personal. Flow Chart, the second wallcovering, is quieter. A rhythmic field of floating rectangles mapped from lyrical cadences developed with students at Ford’s Hip Hop Architecture Camp.

The upholstery fabrics follow the same logic. Bronx Composition stretches a pixelated slice of a group photograph from the first Hip Hop Architecture Camp into a large-scale stripe, treating color the way a DJ treats samples from a crate. Across all five patterns, the palette runs from soft neutrals to full saturation, enough range to anchor a hospitality lounge or hold its own in an education commons.

The Ford collaboration ties a percentage of sales directly to Hip Hop By Design scholarships. Find the collection at Momentum’s showroom at The Mart, #323, during NeoCon 2026 in Chicago.
